Reading Passage:
Every year, the school stadium transforms into a sea of vibrant colors, loud cheers, and intense excitement. The annual School Sports Day is an indispensable part of student life. However, this event is not merely about finding out who the fastest runner is; it is a vital platform for teaching youths about sportsmanship, resilience, and class cohesion.
For students who are not naturally athletic, it is easy to feel intimidated or remain oblivious to the excitement, preferring to sit quietly in the grandstands. Yet, stepping onto the track and giving your best effort, regardless of the outcome, is a meaningful and wise choice. When a struggling runner hears their classmates roaring their name from the bleachers, it provides a deep sense of reassurance that encourages them to push across the finish line.
Sports Day teaches students how to be proactive in supporting one another. Activities like the 4x100m relay or the inter-class tug-of-war cannot be won by a single person; they require absolute trust and teamwork. Even when a team drops the baton or loses a match, learning to weather the storm of disappointment together is crucial.
Ultimately, celebrating a friend’s victory or comforting a classmate after a loss is what makes these events so special. By sharing these high-energy moments and sweating it out under the sun, students break down social barriers and forge a strong sense of camaraderie that lasts long after the medals have been handed out.

PSLE Oral Practice: Stimulus-Based Conversation (5W1H Focus)
Question 1: Visual Analysis (Using basic 5W1H to describe)
“Look at the picture. Describe what is happening on the track and in the grandstand, and explain how they are connected.”
Who & Where: A group of primary school students is competing in a relay race at the school stadium.
What & When: The exhausted runner is trying to pass the baton to his teammate during a sunny Sports Day event, while their classmates cheer loudly from the grandstand.
Why & How: The runners and the supporters are deeply connected. Even though the first runner is tired, the proactive cheering from his friends gives him a deep sense of reassurance to finish his leg of the race. Making the meaningful and wise choice to support each other, whether on the track or in the stands, helps the whole house forge a strong sense of camaraderie.
Question 2: Personal Recount (Applying full 5W1H)
“Tell us about a time you participated in a school sports event or team activity. What was your experience?” (Note : Think about your own Sports Day, a PE game, or an inter-class competition!)
Who & Where: Last year, my class participated in the inter-class Captain’s Ball tournament at our school’s indoor sports hall.
What & When: It took place over three days after school. I was chosen to be a defender for my team.
Why: It was an invaluable experience for me. I am not the most athletic person in the class, so I was initially very nervous and afraid of making a mistake.
How: During our final match, the opposing team was leading. However, our captain made the meaningful and wise choice to call a time-out and encourage us instead of scolding us. We managed to weather the storm, and although we only came in second, the teamwork gave me a deep sense of reassurance that my classmates supported me.
Question 3: Opinion & Experience
“Some students skip Sports Day completely because they feel they are not good at sports and do not want to lose. What is your opinion?”
Opinion: I strongly disagree with that mindset. I believe that skipping Sports Day just because you might lose defeats the entire purpose of the event.
Reason: School events are an indispensable way to build character. If we run away every time we face a challenge we are not perfect at, we will remain oblivious to the joy of trying.
Experience (5W1H style): (When/Where) During my Primary 4 Sports Day, (Who/What) I tripped and fell during the 100-meter dash. (How/Why) I was embarrassed, but my teacher and friends immediately rushed over to check on me. They cheered for me as I walked to the finish line. That day, I learned that being proactive and finishing what you started is more important than coming in first. Therefore, everyone should participate to experience that incredible class spirit.
Theme: School Sports Day / Sportsmanship / Teamwork Visual Stimulus: A bright photo taken at a school stadium during Sports Day. Four students in red house t-shirts are participating in a relay race. One runner looks exhausted but is reaching out to pass the baton to his teammate. In the background, a large group of classmates is standing in the grandstand, waving pom-poms and cheering enthusiastically.
